Biosketch

 

Dr. Gralnek is Assistant Professor of Medicine, in the Division of Digestive Diseases, UCLA School of Medicine, and in the Division of Gastroenterology, VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care System. He serves as section head of health services research within the UCLA Division of Digestive Diseases and is an active member of CURE: Digestive Diseases Research Center. Dr. Gralnek is also the director of the UCLA Center for the Study of Digestive Health Care Quality and Outcomes.

In 1989, Dr. Gralnek received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota. He served his internship and residency in internal medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis where he also served as Chief Resident. Dr. Gralnek completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at UCLA Center for the Health Sciences in 1996. After receiving his Masters in Health Services from the UCLA School of Public Health also in 1996, he completed an additional fellowship in health services research through UCLA, RAND & the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center. He is the recipient of both a VA HSR&D Entry and Advanced Research Career Development Awards. He also has an active VA HSR&D Merit Review Award evaluating process and outcomes of care in "low-risk" patients with acute upper GI hemorrhage.

Dr. Gralnek's primary clinical and research interests have focused on process of care and outcomes in GI bleeding, GERD / non-cardiac chest pain, and irritable bowel syndrome as well as in measuring health-related quality of life in individuals with chronic gastroenterologic and hepatic diseases. Dr. Gralnek serves as an associate editor for Evidence-Based Gastroenterology and is a peer-reviewer for numerous general and GI
